So I decide to try the newest version of wine and to my surprise GPL runs in d3d, I knew they have been working on implementing this in wine but it looks like they have it working.
It run's awful but its a start thumbsup.gif

I take it you mean it's got d3d support in Wine now? (Since afaik, GPL has been able to run on Linux via Wine for a while now).
..It may also use OpenGL, if I remember correctly that's what I used to get it to run on my Mac (via Cider/Wine-for-Mac OS X, which is basically a BSD Unix these days). Runs fine, even if the gfx are blocky.

Yes 3d support in wine, I did not play with it that much since I have it running fine in ogl..
I had created a second install and patched it up.
It has never run before till editing the app file but this time it did.
Double checked the graphics in GPL and indeed it was set to d3d.
Got a woping 4fps on Kyalami but like I said I did not mess with it, set to ogl and away we went smile.gif

I have GPL running under Wine on Linux. My config is Ubuntu Hardy Heron with wine 1.0. Installed GPL with the gplinstaller so all patches are applied. I have it running on opengl which runs fine. I am still playing around with the setup of wine and gpl to get a good performance. Kyalami runs fine indeed, but I get some stalls when going past the pitlane when there are more cars in the pitlane. Out on the track multiple cars are not a problem. Any idea??

IIRC, this is a general problem (for some people) and not Linux related. Do you run a mod or the out of the box 67 cars?
peter
No, I am running the cars as the are from the original game GPL 1.2.0.1. Maybe there are some patches installed with the gpl installer from https://gplps.org/wb/pages/projects/gpl-installer.php .
Installing with the GPL installer does the following:
The installer will take care of installing GPL from your original CD and will then apply all original Papyrus patches, the BWPatch, the Carsound patch and Pribluda. Additional it will apply the teamfix patch, team badges, BAPOM track program covers, GPLEA cars and track updates from various authors.

Correction on my wine version: this should be version 0.9.59.

Do you know if these stalls are solvable??

No i'm afraid not. I know GPL is very picky about drivers (audio & video) after all the old lady is 10 rolleyes.gif

The only thing i noticed lately is that it's more noticeable if you run graphic demanding mods. But that's probably coss everything is slowed down so it's easier to spot. You could try to run it in default setting e.g. the ugly default cars and check if this reduces the problem. I've had this stalling before on a much more irritating level as it is now but never figured out what cured it, could be an update of windows or a driver update who knows. You could try the new rasterizer v2 and see if one of the modes ogl or d3d brings a solution.

What came to mind. Could it be an issue when running 64-bits Ubuntu?

I honestly don't know, i do know that there was a patch for xp dual core clock settings which wasn't normally in the service packs. I don't know if this is an issue with Linux. I normally tweak my system until it works properly and then just leave it alone. So i'm not into that techy stuff much (i only invest the time to get it set up properly) Hopefully somebody with more insights in Linux can help you out smile.gif

Ok. Thanks for the info anyway. I'll have to tweak and configure to get it right. Maybe I'll install the i386 version. See if that will do any good. It's worth a try.
From another forum there is a tip to disable the compiz (3d effects) with "metacity --replace" this works pretty good.
If I find something which will improve GPL on Linux I will post it here.
There is not that much on the web about running GPL on Linux.

I don't know if you know RSC(Race Sim Central)?
But here you also might find some info on GPL & Linux.
