Hi,

I'm after an idiots' guide to the cars of the 1969 Mod. I'm sure that I've read a Readme file containing details of each car and the benefits of each but I'll be darned if I can find it on my HD.

I want the sort of thing that tells me how they perform in GPL. With the 67's I understand the the Honda is very heavy at the back end, the Ferrari is nimble, the lotus is delicate and the BRM is just heavy. I'm after something more detailed about the 69s please.

The Cars :-

At the moment its a tough choice between the MatraMS80 and Lotus49b
for top car. The MclarenM7 and BrabhamBT26 are pretty close behind
the top two, mostly because they are all using the Cosworth DFV.

MatraMS80 feels easier to drive than the Lotus49b, both have
inherent understeer which has to be dealt with by using power
oversteer.
The BrabhamBT26 is a go-kart, it has the most front end grip of the
lot in my opinion but suffers from extra drag.
MclarenM7 with its narrow track can be a nice car with the right
setup and not that far behind the top cars.
Ferrari312 is the mid feilder, it feels fast and comfortable but
cant match the DFV's for pace.
BRM P126 ( and P139 in Low wing carset ) comes next, again easy car
to drive and feels like it has the power but its a bit overwieght
for the job.
The slowest car in the carset should be the Lotus63, hailed as a
breakthrough in technology but it just did not deliver the goods.
It's 4WD system made the car very overwieght and even in the wet the
car was slower than its 49b stable mate. This is the car for
the "aliens"

This is all the 69 mod readme says.

Hi
Imho Matra is most stabil car versus like Lotus 63.If you earlier drive 67,you find out that how marvelous cars 69 is to drive. It`s great that you can "slide" whole curv and still been fast. You don`t cut the grass if you do little mistake.(don`t do big one.lol)I think 67 cars is like driving on ice all the time. When over and when understeer. It`s hard to setup so I use everytime somebodys else setups.
Finally I love 69 car and now drive just that nothing else. Not even 66 (that is imo so s..to drive). bye1.gif

With regard to performance, you'll find that the Brabham BT26 is fastest on *nearly* all the tracks in GPL. That's because it has relatively good handling and afaik a tad more front end grip than most other cars (I remember it being the only car in which I could take Curva Grande absolutely flat out without understeering into the guardrails).
So on all but the fastest tracks, like Spa or Monza where the Lotus49 and MS80 are probably slightly faster, you'll find the Brab being the quickest all round. Conversely, the Lotus43 is the slowest everywhere (partly due to its missing four-wheel-drive while retaining its large weight I guess). The McLaren seems to be a slightly better midfielder than the Ferrari, which in turn is a tad faster than the BRM139. smile.gif
