Full Version: GPL on 3 sreens?
SimRacing MZ > Grand Prix Legends > "Help! I'm having trouble with..."
Pedro
I have a question:

Is it possible to drive GPL on 3 screens at the seem time:

left - left mirror
Middle - cockpit view
right - right mirror

If this is possible, what kind of hardware ( beside 3 screens ) and software do I need confused1.gif

Thanks in advanced.
Bob Simpson
You'll need the Matrox TripleHead2Go device. But the overall resolution is limited by GPL's DirectX7 coding. OpenGL is better for res.

Take a look Pedro.

Is that yours Andrea? ohmy.gif
Pedro
Thanks Bob and Andy.

whoohoo.gifhug.giffireworks.gifwow.gif

That looks great yDNA, very nice setup!
Is this done with the "Matrox TripleHead2Go" ? I hope there are no tricks or software needed (I am no einstein.gifyou know )

And looking at the internet, I sow it's very new here!
Only one store sell's them?
299 euro at Alternate https://www.alternate.nl/html/product/detai...owTechData=true

This solution is much cheaper an easy'er then using a Beamer/Projector.
I was thinking about buying a Beamer/projector for racing GPL.
Last saterday a Dutch simmer invited me to look at his stuf.
I must say thats very cool!
The negative part is, that there is a lot to be done to make it work.
You need a lot of space, dark curtains and a race frame.

This solution is much cheaper an easy'er then using a Beamer/Projector.

Tomorrow I make a dissision.

Have a look at this thread Pedro, i was wondering about the very same thing on RSC not so long ago

GPL and three screens thread on RSC
Pedro
Thanks for the link Dark.

Nice to see and hear I am not the only one.

Reading there I have found Bob Simpsons list page:
https://forum.rscnet.org/showthread.php?t=185077
A lot of programs I don't have oops.gif
I must admit, I am a driver not a editer.
Many thanks.

About the TripleHead2go:
I have decided to give it a go, and orderd one yesterday 59.gif
The delivery date is unfortunately unknown mad.gif, and knowing my luck with this, it can take a while.

Reading all the stuf, I am getting curios and anxious at the same time.
Curios about the adjustmendts to make with:
FOV = field of view
POV = Position of view
GPLshift = the tool to make the shifter work?
GPLSA = ?
And how it works when I am not racing? Desktop at 3 or 1 screen?

And anxious about if my grafic-card (a Radeon 9800-pro ) can handle 3 monitors.

In time I let you know how it works, if it works.

Greetings Pedro.

Hmmm. I should update that post. There've been some new utilties that have come out.
Dark
Hey Pedro did you get the Triplehead and two extra screens?

I'm thinking of going for it and buying the Triphead2go and two more 22" TFT's next month (can't quite afford it this month) and was wondering how your getting on with yours.

P.s. I see you've been really busy lapping lots of circuits recently blink.gif
Pedro
Sorry for the silence, oops.gif

Yes I got it, exactly 1 week ago.
Buzzy, buzzy, buzzy lots of things to adjust, and test, before I can give my opinion.
In the mean time I was doing some laps for my GPL Monster of Totalrank
(I notist, I am not the only one doing that wink.gif)

I find it a bit difficult to translate my feelings and thought in Englisch, but I give it a go:

Triphead2go
Installing the hardware is easy, and I think you even dont need the software to run it.
My setup = two 19inch tft, and one 22inch crt monitor in the middle.

I must admit..................... in first I was a bit dissapointed.

Because my grafic card (Radeon 9800 pro 128mb) is getting to old for this,
the maximum screen resolution in Windows = 3072 x 768 pixel (3 x 1024 x 768)
and thats one step back.
The native resolution of the two 19inch tft = 1280 x 1024 and they don't like the 1024 x 768 resolution.
so thats another step back.
Another thing I don't like, but where I must get used to is my sitting position when I am not racing.
I have a raceseat infront of the middle monitor.
When I am not racing I sit in front of the the right monitor on a office-chair.
Looking mostly in the left direction I get a painfull neck.

GPL
The reason I wanted the Triplehead2go = GPL.
Also here the in game max resolution = 3072 x 768
It took me a long time to fiddle around with Fov, Pov, GPL-Shift, GPLSA, etc to get things right.
One thing I do not get right is the "pitboard' view. (maybe a Track IR helps)

A friend of my has a new power PC with a 8800GTS 768mb grafic card.
Last weekend we tested the TripleHead2go with his system.
In Windows he can choose a much higher and better resolution.
For GPL it seems not to mather confused1.gifalso max. resolution 3072 x 768
Also the time deley between a "single monitor menu" and a "triple monitor modus" are the same on his and mine PC.

In short:
Negative
Windows resolution ( solution - more money fore better PC )
Time delay, switching between one and three monitors.
Not been able to see the pitboad.

Positive
Yes!
Yes!
Yes!
It looks so much better..................I don't want back.

But remeber, its not Alleluja!

Greeting Pedro.

(this post took me more then 2 hours to wright, and thats about the same as 20 replays for the Monster TotalRank smile.gif)
Dark
Now thats a long reply blink.gifThanks for taking the time to write all that thumbsup.gif

I'm very impressed by the amount of times you have been submitting, incredible work mate clapping.gif

Hmmm interesting, the pitboard problem wouldn't bother me i think, i tend to rely on Pribula more. The resolution limitation on the other hand does worry me, i have a GeForce 8800GTX and currently run a really high resolution and i wonder whether having to drop down to a lower resolution to span the image across three screens will make things look bad.

As it turns out i may not be able to afford the Triplehead2go and two more screens next month as i've just had to purchase a Logitech G25 because my current wheel and pedals are giving me so much trouble mad.gif

But thanks again for the reply and look forward to seeing your next batch of submitted laps 59.gif

Just what happens when you're not in the "native resolution"? Is there an image problem or degradation? On my 22" widescreen LCD, you can turn off the reminder that you're not in the preferred res in the on-screen LCD menu. That reminder used to come up every time I was in the GPL menus which display at 640x480.

As Dark said, Pribluda will give you everything that the pitboard displays except for one thing. It won't show how far back the next "race position" person is - only the next person back on the track, even if they're not on the same lap as you. The laps remaining in the race is constantly displayed just after your name BTW.

According to https://www.simhq.com/_technology/technology_065j.html in an article on using the Triplehead2go with GPL, "1920x480 is the only triplehead resolution that will work with GPL and the TripleHead2Go." For the 3072 x 768 res are you using OpenGL? Pribluda won't work in OpenGL.

Both I think.
The Windows Start button fore example, and the other pictogams are not as sharp as the used to be.
And the tekst I write like this post is not fully black and round, like if there are pixtels missing.
(hope u understand this)

oops.gifI havend noticed this before, thanks for the tip!

oops.gifagain, You are right.
I use Direct3D7 and its on 1920 x 480

I forgot to tell, but I have triede so many things that I am confuced myself, and asuming it was on 3072 X 768
After your post I check 't this and I was wrong!
Sorry for the mis information!
I downloaded the rastd3d7_12_3.dll and renamed it to rastd3d.dll
After that you can select resolution
640 x 480
1920 X 480
2400 X 600
3072 x 768
The only resolution that works is indeed = 1920 x 480 (I think also on my friends PC)
I thougt that my old Crafic-card was the reason I coult not get the other resolutions to work.
Stupid me, its on the internet blink.gif

The view I get in the game, looks to be the same as before! (but I am going to test this)
Lets say its fine by me.
And thanks fore your support in Monster TotalRank, doing very well your selve to thumbsup.gif

Wow! a monster post Pedro! shocking.gif

From the pictures i've seen of all the Triplehead2go three screen setups i would never have guessed that such a low resolution was used, it does worry me that the picture would be a little blocky using only 480 vertical lines, but its encouraging to hear that you think the in game pictures look as good as before thumbsup.gif

To be continued.........

I have made some ingame screenshots.
The track= Portland (it was just the one I needed to drive) and its not a very pritty one.

I think that the image's are the same in quality in 1920x480 as in 1280x1024 ,but they don,t look the same huh.gif

If you zoom in to a detail, the sharpness is the same, you see little blocks.
Because the image in 1920 x 768 is more stretch't and the view you get is more pulled in to the game, you see the blocks bigger.

In short, they are not equal,
but I dont care.
When I got back to the old 1280 x 1024 resolution I thougt I was given a place on the back of the tribune.

Greeting Pedro
Dark
That looks good Pedro, thanks for taking the time to post the screenshot thumbsup.gif

Just looking at the resolution figures i would expect a drop in quality between 1920x480 and 1280x1024 as there a lot less pixels spread over a larger screen area. But it sounds like the pros out weigh the cons which is good to hear.

Are you planning on altering the FOV back a bit in the future?
Pedro

I am not sure Dark.
The way it is now, the mirrors are hanging on the monitor frame, that looks a soort of natural.

I discoverd another con, I can't always see the flagman sad.gif, but so be it.

When my race-place is ready i will post a picture (praudly present).

Greetings Pedro.
