Full Version: Sound issues on GPL

Hi.

I'm having sound problems with GPL on my new PC. The game worked fine on my old comp' ( apart from regularly crashing and returning to Windows...) but on my new PC there's a terrible high pitched whine that kicks in at around 7000 revs. The monitor and speakers I'm using seem fine for everything else, so I'm guessing they're not the problem, though I might be wrong. Has anybody else encountered such a problem, and if so how did they solve it?

Many thanks in advance for any help.

Are you using an on-board sound system, Realtek AC97 or something similar in the worst case?

Take a look over at RSC in Bob's FAQ for possible solutions. smile.gif

Well, it's possible that it's the source of your sound problems. As it says in the FAQ, it may help to reduce the hardware acceleration or the conversion quality (?) - see there for details. smile.gif

Thanks for your help floP.

It seems that the source of the problem is indeed the newer version of the onboard Realtek sound card I'm using; seemingly the older ones work better with GPL. Now I've got to figure out a cure, which I suspect will prove tricky... .

Thanks again,

From the Run menu type dxdiag (for DirectX diagnostics). Hit the sound 1 tab and move the sound acceleration to basic. Then do the same for Sound 2. Close by hitting the X in the window - not the exit.

I went through similar woes recently after a PC upgrade, old PC had AC97 onboard which worked fine once I found good driver.

The new mobo with AD1988 HDA sound worked fine for all games ecept GPL, spent a long time trying all fixes at RSC etc. In the end I bought Audigy2 soundcard.

Of course on the day the card arrived somebody posted a new driver for the AD1988, this naturally fixed my static pops and graphics stutters. After trying Audigy 2 with various drivers would have to say that the onboard maybe slightly better. I am only using good headphones rather than surround speakers etc whcih would no doubt work better with Audigy.

So you might like to try a few different driver versions and not just the newest you can find.
