Probably smile.gif

Just waiting for the hype to die down and the dust to settle.

I'm waiting to see what some people say about it too. So, what do you think of it, Jason? biggrin.gif

I'm at work at the mo so won't be able to test it until tonight (assuming the better half lets me smile.gif)

The d/l is very s l o w sad.gif

Did not try the demo so will be interesting to see
In one way I hope its great - In another way I don't as it will detract me from playing GPL ------ time will tell
Ginetto
I'm DLing it now too (107 KB/Sec).
I don't even know if it will work on my laptop though...
Once I have it on my HD i'll see if buy it or not.
Ciao!

I tried the demo and it was dull and very lack luster

after listening to all the hype i was truly disappointed

so i bought GTR instead and it is great....bit of a hassle with the cd having to be in all the time but the AussieV8 mod is to die for and so is the Morgan mod

tracks are good and the physics are fine

as for rfactor.....the cars look like some kid drew them and the track is.....uh...where?

talk about fantasy mods rfactor is the weirdess lookin game ever...like its from another planet

why cant they use car models we recognise or some tracks we might recognise so we can compare

hey....if i see the cd for rfactor in the store i might buy it anyways.....i can always use another coaster

Just some thoughts on rFactor after a few hours with it:

Install is fine, no demo, you gotta buy it to try it, at least at this point.

Future for it is certainly in the mods. In the DL you get generic cars and tracks to avoid licensing issues I suppose. Hate to see our future headed this way as realism is so important to me. Guess the mods will try to take care of that, but I'm sure as soon as an F1 mod is out, Bernie's lawyers will attack, so. . .I dunno.

My machine is only a 2 gig laptop, so graphics aren't the best, but it does allow to turn things down for us have nots.

Physics seem very very good at first glance. Drove the open wheel trainer and some small econo box and they were very different. Still seems like the feel is just not quite what I like, guess I'm just too used to Papy. Not saying it isn't good, it really is, just different. AI seem very poor. Online seems to work as good as Papy sims. Menus seem more confusing, but sure I'll get used to them.

Anyway, at this point I'd say it'll stay on the HD, but GPL certainly isn't going to leave (ever, I think). As rFactor stands right now, it's an upgraded SCGT, career mode and all. Mods though will probably make it something most of us will want. I personally get so much more pleasure sliding my 65 BRM around than I do driving anything more modern, that rFactor is never going to replace GPL for me. 2c.gif

If GPL and NR2003 (and/or any of its mods) work well in you PC, DO NOT UNINSTALL any of them YET.
I've wasted u$s70 with GTR and rFACTOR and, at that cost, I should have kept those u$s70 for a rainy day.

Now, now Arturo. Don't hold back, don't be bashful, say what you really feel. tongue.gif

I'd gather from this you didn't like it? laugh.giflaugh.gif

See Arturo & I think alike to a certain degree. Except with GTR alot of mates of mine had joined the GTR rush as a great deal jumped ship from NR2003 . I've not touched GPL for months but remains on the system till I burn everything to discs. But still into NR2003 even to the point of the odd online truck race. But getting more & more into GTR when I find the time.

Got it all up and running

Running 1280x1024; AAx4; AFx4; Dx 9 shaders ---- I got stutters until I caped the frame rate at 36 (in the plr file). Now all runs smooth as can be [64bit 3700amd; x800xt 256mb; 1gb ram]

All in game settings maxed out

It looks very very nice ---- out of the box its better than a 'very high res' update for GPL IMO. The lighting engine is very good!!!!

Only driven the trainer open wheel for about 1 hour and after taking some rear wing off and softening up the front a bit I really like it. Only done 1 race and it was intense - just like gpl was when i 1st got it back in 1998 (I think)

DM - U may have to open up an rFactor forum

these are my 1st impressions so they may change as time goes on
I have GTR and was never over impressed with it - this is much better!!!

Interestingly - I found the AI to be excellent - very good at blocking - love it

Anyway - back to it
sheepherder
I haven't seem anything on it or about it...What is the site URL???

Hi Keith smile.gif
I was expecting something different and it shows biggrin.gifAt the moment, all I could play are fictional cars at some fictional tracks. At least when I bought GPL I could play with 7 F1 cars at 11 real tracks, not to mention NR2003 wink.gif
Maybe this is a good base to develope a game, or some mods, but, what are mods without tracks ??
Let's say that tomorrow we could have a 1967 F1 mod (car + physics) for rFactor. Where are we going to drive it ?? At Toban Raceway ??
Imagine GPL with 7 cars and a single track like Toban ?? shocking.gif
I've been driving car sims for nearly 10 years now and I bought all of them because I liked the cars and tracks represented in the car sim. Next came the addons, mods, etc.. THis game has no playing value imho, until we can have 2 or 3 decent mods and maybe 15 decent tracks.
In the meantime, and even if I do not like the cars nor modern tracks, GTR is a full game, take it or leave it, but a full game.
rFactor could be a good basement to develope mods, but atm it is not worth the u$s40 imo.

For you rFactor people ... https://www.teamtundra.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=17

For you like me into GTR .. https://www.teamtundra.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=19

If you people spent some time & learnt how to set up cars properly in NR2003 & GTR then you wouldn't have anything to really complain about would you? confused1.gif
Cheers tongue.gif
Rock
I haven't been following rfactor at all really, and from what I can make of it; it isn't really that compelling to me, so I'll probably pass on it, at least for now.

Good light effect, is what GPL misses, whatching it.
Driving it it doesn't matter to me if the shadows are right or not, I just look at the track surface tongue.gif.

There's a Green Hell mod in the works thumbsup.gifRight now, its just a platform to build on, the fictonal cars and tracks are there to display what it's capable of. AND there will be readily available developers tools (there won't be any time wasted trying to "crack" everything......how long has it taken to figure out to make a track longer than 14 miles in GPL now? shocking.gif)

Don't get me wrong, I doubt rF will enjoy the longevity of GPL. But for club-type racing and great on-line racing, I think rF will be the way to go.

Gentlemen:
I think it is terrific. My understanding is that it is essentially a mod platform. They went w/ generic cars and tracks because in our day and age, litigation follows sims. Modders will have a field day w/ it.
Try the trainer on OW or the F1 car (search around and you'll find the "cheat" to unlock the high level vehicles ((I dont like this part of it at all- career mode)). IMHO, this is the first time you can actually throw a car into a drift since GPL. GPL is still the king (once you're in that cult, it is like the mob - no one gets out). The mods will only enhance the sim. In my eyes, it is awesome. The user needs to become familiar w/ ISI settings adjustments which are unlike Papy's. I have not had the AI problem. They will block but I've run side by side w/ them at the Daytona road course-like track that comes w/ the sim w/o any problems. It will never replace for me at least GPL but guys give it a shot. I think it represents and advance/evolution in race car physics. If nothing else, you will probably like it for the OW mods that are on the horizion.
Just my 2 cents.
FR
btw, the netcode is probably the best to date.

My racing pc is offline and i seldom race online

i enjoy racing the AI with all my computer dedicated to that task and not wasting energy with AV,FW,AA and whatever else is running in the background slowing it to a stall

all gone now....the computer runs like a charm and i have no intention of ever going back online with anything worth more then 200 dollars

so how do i race these new fangled games

ha ha

they really shot themselves in the foot thinking EVERY single person is online with 3200mb processors

GTR comes in a box and anything like Rfactor and whatever that noodle head that made GPL is doing.....well they are all fairy pee to me

give me something tangible i have no use for Rfactors theory of PC racing future

sounds like the end of sim racing to me

so unless they are selling it on a cd for me to use offline its just an arcade game (pay to play ha...nice try guys)
jason_peters
I really like it - the Open wheel trainers are a hoot and a very good model - not tried the F1 yet

I even mocked a quick skin (5 mins work)

king:
I dont race online either at least not yet because i stink. rfac installed so easy it was a joke and i screw up the easist ones. you can burn it to a cd w/ no problems and they encourage you to do so. give it a shot.
FourWheelDrift
I'm not going to activate mine until there are some good mods available and real tracks. I liked the demo in terms of graphics/physics engine (same as GTL and GTR2 I believe) but couldn't stand the cars.
