37¾ mile Isle Of Man Mountain Course for Grand Prix Legends  RELEASE THREAD

A long time in development; too long in fact for me as well as yourselves, but here it is,
Perseverance pays eventually. My best attempt at making this iconic road racing circuit.

All the details of the construction, a complete driving guide and a lot of other information is contained in the Readme and Driving Guide PDF.

Details of how your driving experience can be varied using different environment settings and Audio Pace notes as two examples, are contained in the separate Options Manager Readme PDF.

Updated / enhanced final version of both these PDF's are in the track folder [ AAIOM ] but for your convenience, are reproduced below.

Also listed below are three release videos, designed to demonstrate what its like to drive the track at speed, to show a number of different car sets and the various options available.

https://youtu.be/Ox_oH3KdoNg    Composite five car set single lap TV1 Camera
https://youtu.be/uqkjHlBVvDM My driven lap in a BT24 19:06
https://youtu.be/V7-KUr-H8Cw Demonstration of Options Manager functionality.

While this has been a one person build, in the Readme I have acknowledged different types of support that made creation of this track possible.  That said I wish to acknowledge again here, the following people.

- Ken Murray, Manx GP and TT rider who gave valuable feedback on early Alpha builds.

- Nigel Pattinson, who added long tracks functionality to GPL.

- Lee Bowden, who provided the coding and added two of his own programs to enable my Options Manager system to work seemlessly.

- Stefan Roess, who has agreed to host the files.

There are three downloadable Zip files,

A ] The Main AAIOM Track Installer Zip, with all the large textures included.

B ]  An Options Manager Zip

These first two Zips need to be installed by everyone. Both required for the track to run properly.
Simple instructions for using these files are contained in the installer readme and an RTF Readme in the Zips.
[ also reproduced below.]

C ] An Alternate [ Smaller ] Texture swap files Zip; ie a set of half sized copies of the largest standard ones, with included instructions for use. Download and try the smaller zip if you have loading or frame rate issues with the standard track files.

I hope you enjoy this long, varied and exciting driving environment, the historic Isle of Man Mountain Course, in constant use for racing since 1905!.

My best wishes, from way down under.

Jim

YEE-HAA!!!! Only just seen this, I'm so speechless I can't think of anything to say right now! I'm just going to get on with downloading, installing & trying out, and then come back here later when I can think of some sensible comments! :yikesss: :partytime:  :bounce: :woot: :excited:

Oh boy, what a beauty! I've just been practising in the '65 Lotus 33 and the course looks amazing. So much of the familiar shortened course, but the extra length and space has changed the character in so many ways, some subtle, some not-so-subtle. The jump at Crosby (Coach and Horses?) now seems a bit less severe, but the series of bends afterwards through Greeba Castle, Appledean etc is just as challenging. The climb from Laurel Bank, up Cregwillys Hill and over Cronk-y-Voddy is like threading a needle on the short course, but there's more room on the new course to just put your foot down and accelerate away. At first sight the Barregarrow section seems easier as the kinks over the bridges aren't quite so tight. But because the hill is longer, you're taking this section at a higher speed, so you still have to be very accurate. Kirk Michael seems bigger and a bit wider, with more buildings, so again it might seem easier than the short course, but I think the road layout has changed slightly, and there are a few more corners to get right, otherwise you'll end up in someone's front garden! The Mountain Mile (I think my favourite part of the course) has changed quite a bit. On the short course it's a long straight with a few kinks in it, so (like Cregwillys Hill) it was a matter of seeing how fast you could thread the needle and straightline the kinks. Now, the corners are more pronounced, but they're still fast sweepers.

I've tried out the options program, and it makes everything very easy to use. I turned on all the place names straight away as I thought I could use my knowledge of the short course to help me learn the changes with this one, and it really did help. The weather and sky effects look amazing, and I'm sure I'll be trying them soon. Well done Lee for creating such a useful utility.

But of course full congratulations should go to Jim for completing his 14-year project and giving us the most amazing course in motor racing simulation history. This course will be the envy of every other motor racing simulation in the world. I'm really looking forward to spending more time learning my way around and taking full advantage of the extra space and extra length of the course. Jim, I don't know what you feel like at the moment, having finished this marathon. And I hope you've got something good lined up in your life to take its place. But I also hope you're feeling very happy at creating something truly amazing.
Thank You! :bowdown2: :bravo:

Now we have conquered another milestone for GPL, no one has ever reached a similar goal nor will they ever be able to do so in the future.

With this conquest GPL definitively enters history, reaching a level that places it beyond any definable goal that a program can ever hope to achieve, history is definitively written here.

An infinite thank you for the monumental work and the infinite passion that has been used to achieve a similar result, which benefits all fans of historical pilotage.
Thank you very much again for what you have done, from your humble supporter, who has always believed in your efforts to achieve this result.
The difficulty now will be to be able to make a decent time that can give luster to so much effort!

    Thanks Jim.

Edit reason: some mistype with GPL :D

The track released in 2003 was already one of my favorites, if not my favorite, so this one was obviously more than expected and will probably be at the top of my list. :yikesss:

Just watching your lap now Jim as it downloads!

Can't wait to see the challenge that now awaits us.. the first 3 lap pro race will be immense!

PS. Is your Brabham a custom colour? For 'Black' Jack? I have an old one installed on mine as well for a few of the numbers, an STP Red custom Brabham back from the RSC days IIRC.
